DON'T KNOW WHY SHE DOES THAT ...

Don't know why she does that.

When I suggest, Come, she says, Let's go.
If I say, Sit by my side, she says, She must be elsewhere

When I say, Let's hold hands, she says, O be done with it!
When I suggest, let's walk by the sea, she says, she must rest

When I want to read her verse, she has me sit by her feet
And she idly plays with her tresses, and pretends she listens

When I shut the book and lay it by, she says I am not interested
When I protest, she says she has listened to every word I ever wrote

One day I say, Is there someone else? Is she trying to tell me something?
She says, I am an idiot, and a very silly one at that, no there's no one.

And I say, why all this struggle, diversity, distress and dudgeon?
She smiles, pulls my ear much as if I am a poodle, and says
