I promised to forward personal  mail about Mansoor to nukkad, for =
benefit of all. Here it is:

A Sufi leader by the name Abu Mansoor al-Hallaj went so far in disbelief 
as to claim he was god himself. He was crucified for his blasphemous 
claim, and for his defiance of shari'ah, or Islamic jurisprudence, in 
Baghdad, Iraq, in 309 A.H. (922 A.D.) He said,

  "I am He Whom I love; He Whom I love is I; we are two souls 
co-inhabiting one body. If you see me you see Him and if you see Him you 
see me."

the following is what i am writing to you:


mansoor said, "analahaq" (please verify transliterated spellings, 
pronunciation, and meaning) which means "i am god".  in a book i read 
around the age 12-15 on female urdu poetesses, there were the following 
lines by a poetess whose name i do not remember, perhaps it was 
zebunnisa:

tasa-wur us sanam ka dil main laye jis ka jee chahe
hamari baat sun kar aajamaye jis ka  jee chahe

kaha mansoor ne sooli pe chardh ke ishq -baazon se
ye us ke baam ka zeena hai aaye jis ka jee chahe

When GC was 12-15, I was 16-19 [I entered AIIMS for MBBS  at 17 and a 
half]. I don't know what GC was doing with
Mansoor and Zebunnisa in those days. Whatever he was doing, it has taken 
him to US, he is there since 1978. And I am happy here in my desi 
hinterland!
