A Nike Commercial
Sooner or later, you start taking yourself seriously.
You know when you need a break.
=================================================================
Nike... they make good stuff. And Nike products are expensive !

The Nike commercial reminded me of the movie "What Women Want"...
starring Mel (Braveheart) Gibson and Helen (As You Like It) Hunt.
A real nice comedy. :-)

I believe this is the first Hollywood movie to contain its own
"commercial break"... a full-length ad for Nike running shoes for
women. In the movie... the hero Nick Marshall (Gibson) presents the
ad to a group of Nike female executives.

The ad shows a woman running on wet pavement, thinking...
about how the road... unlike life... demands nothing.
And the slogan: "No games. Just sports." ... effectively delivers
the message.

When the movie released... our local newspaper mentioned that there
was no mention of Wieden & Kennedy, the Portland-based firm that
represents Nike, in the movie's credits (that was odd... :-( ).

Well... this is all well and good... as Helen Hunt says in the
movie, "Nike wants to empower women" !

But... there is a tragic side to this... it is well known that
Nike employs teenage girls in its Asian sweatshops.
How does Nike "justify" the hiring of these teenage girls ??

Alas... all that "glitter" on the top and beneath... faux-feminist
advertising and employee exploitation ??

-Sam.
