They who anger you, control you.

==============================================================
Some years ago I took on an assignment in a southern
county to work with people on public welfare.
The first thing I said after I shook hands with
everybody was, "I would like to know what your dreams
are."
Everyone looked at me as if I were kind of wacky.
==============================================================
True... everybody has a dream...
But what is interesting to note is that...
If we have -no- dreams ... we are nothing, and
if we are -all- dreams ... we are still nothing. ;-)
So... dreams without direction are just fantasies.
Somebody once said...
"Vision without a task is only a dream.
A task without a vision is but drudgery.
But vision with a task is a dream fulfilled."
...
All this is fine...
But if we ask the average Joe, "What is your dream"? The usual
answer is "earning a lot of money", "buying a BMW", "living in a
big house", "getting a promotion", "being the best", "winning the
lotto" etc. The emphasis is almost always on the external aspects
of life - things that happen outside of ourselves.
Now... there is nothing wrong with these types of
dreams/accomplishments - they are a way of keeping score and
improving our circumstances. But are they the most important
types of dreams/accomplishments... do these types of accomplishments
make us truly happy?
Our religions, our sacred books tell us that the most meaningful
accomplishments stem from inside ourselves. If we care so much about
religion and religious teachings then why do we not truly follow what
they teach us? Why do we not ask ourselves... was I kind to myself and
to others? ... did I overreact to a challenge, or was I calm and
collected? ... am I happy? ... did I hold on to anger or was I able
to let go and move on? ... was I too stubborn? ... did I forgive?
Don't these questions remind us that the true measure of our success
comes not from what we do but from who we are and how much we care
for others?
Unfortunately... most of us spend our lifetimes collecting
achievements, earning praise and recognition, awards, seeking
approval... so much so, that we lose sight of what is truly
meaningful. How sad !
