[nukkad] Flamingoes in Mumbai

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
If God created us in his own image, we have more than
reciprocated. -Voltaire, philosopher (1694-1778)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Large flocks of flamingoes have been sighted in Sewri/Shivdi and
Mulund in Mumbai.

You can see photos of the flock at
http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/birdsofbombay/lst

Here are the directions to Shivdi from the BirdsOfBombay mailing
list (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/birdsofbombay):

Bharat writes:
Get down at Shivdi Station on the eastern side. A road goes in the
North eastern direction just outside the station. Ask anyone for Colgate
Factory. The road next to the factory goes to the waterfront.... from
there you can watch the Flamingoes. To the south of the factory and
next to the Dargah is the semi-ruined Shivdi fort. As the fort is
on a small hillock it provides good elevation to watch the
birds..... Dont forget to take your Binocs.

and Ashwini added:
The best time to watch flamingoes at Sewree is abt an hour after high
tide. (check the tide timings in Times of India) Also, when the tide
height is greatest, ie closer to 4 m the birds are closer. I had once
seen a tide chart, which showed tide timings for the whole month,
but haven't been able to procure it.

It's also a better idea to avoid going in the morning, because the
light is unfavourable. For waders, low tide is better.

Harshal
