A couple of questions:

1. Doesn't 'pravasi' usually mean traveller? So why is the govt.
calling NRIs 'pravasis'?

2. If you are eligible for dual citizenship, will you apply for it?

1) I guess Bin-nivasi would have been more appropriate. But I have faith and
   confidence in the Govt. for using pravasi as they have used. Only thing
is
   I am unable to provide explanation. On a quick thought : The Govt. of
India
   does not wish to call them as 'lost' sons of India and hence they are
termed
   only travellers out of India ! I guess this is more or less the concept.

2) Personally I have never wanted to take any other citizenship. I was in
USA 23
   years ago and could have easily settled down there without difficulty. I
have
   more personal contacts, USA wide, than perhaps the president of that
country.
   I am Bombay based Gujju Jain, should that give any clue. When I was
meeting                       girls for marriage in late 1980, as many as
half the proposals were from US settled girls.
   One doctor girl, Naina, whom I had dated in NY for some time was already
earning
   half a million dollars in her practice and her dad was a filthy rich from
   Malbar Hill. But all that was turned down by this man because he
eventually
   wants to return to India, while those girls wanted to die in USA.
   If this is a survey, I file my return : NO.
