---------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are two kinds of fool. One says, "This is old, and therefore good." And one says, "This is new, and therefore better." -John Brunner, science fiction writer (1934-1995) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- #Christianity DRTV: >2.ravi says protestant or catholic , they are separate religions. now i am really confused. protestant, catholic, etc etc tehy still call themselves christians. no one says i am a protestant not a christian.< == As the Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church puts it, the name Christian " was originally applied to the followers of Christ by outsiders, according to Acts 11 : 26 being first used at Antioch c. 40 - 4. According to Tacitus it was current among the people at Rome at the time of the Neronian persecution [A.D. 64] and it was always the official Roman designation of members of the Church; thus in times of persecution it was often the confession or or denial of this name that was crucial. It was later adopted by the Church as a designation to distinguish itself from other religions. In modern times the name Christian has been claimed by every form of belief stemming from historical Christianity, and has tended, in nominally Christian countries, to lose any creadal significance and imply only what is ethically praiseworthy." Still, the common roots do not prevent conflicts between different beliefs, the most dramatic being the long-lasting Catholic - Protestant conflict in Northern Ireland. >similarly muslims- shia, sunni or sufi they are still muslims.< == Here the common fundamentals do not seem to soothe the conflict either. Or am I mistaken..? >if they want to be segregated on that basis it is their wish. hurt comes only when some do not want to be segregated but the society at large does so.< == But the society is them, is it not..? -------------------------------------------- #Education: RAVI: >My definition of an educated man is one who i strained enough to make teh decision between Right and Wrong and yes Satya its not a pancaea to wash off our ills - all of them but it will put us at a place where we will be able to make a better start.< == Being able to make the decision between Right and Wrong is a very general definition.I just wonder if it is always the same kind of choice. Is individual perspective always same as social perspective..? Proper choice in solving social problems, individual problems, economic problems - how many common denominators do they have..? SATYA: > Education is not a panacea ...Otherwise also - whats the right meaning of education? == Nothing is a panacea, it does not exist. : ( But I think that really educated people: - are able to relate their theoretical knowledge to reality and verify it if necessary - are ready to acquire new knowledge - are not afraid of/hostile to new ideas, even if not in line with theirs, and those who represent them - are ready to help educate others And more, that I can hardly verbalise [being not enough educated... : ( ] Best, Anna. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Oficjalny serwis Polskiej Reprezentacji Skoczkow Narciarskich! >>> http://link.interia.pl/f16b1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ To join/leave, use the form at: http://www.mumbai-central.com/nukkad/#options This list is archived at: http://www.mumbai-central.com/nukkad/archive.html
