RE: Re : [nukkad] Narendra damordas Modi - No hitler but compatible popularity

I agree with Dinesh.
True, Modi won a landslide victory in the elections. But if one landslide
election win qualifies a politician to the title of Iron Man, then you have
to grant that Rajiv Gandhi, Laloo Yadav, Jayalalitha et al also qualify for
the same. One election victory does not prove the qualities of a leader. He
has to prove himself over the next five years with good governance of
Gujarat. That is where RG, LY & JL failed. Can Modi prove himself in
governance?

Can you claim that it was good governance when he failed to order firm
action against rioters in the very first hour of riots? The Government quite
ably prevented wide-spread riots after Akshardham even in the charged up
communal atmosphere and desecration of a place of worship. What was the
reason for failure to do so after Godhra?

If Modi is able to bring peace and prosperity to Gujarat, good. I wish him
well for that.

Correction. Mantralaya building is not 'mortgaged' to banks. The Banks have
sought attachment of part of Mantralaya building in a petition to Debt
recovery tribunal because the State Government failed to fulfill the
guarantee given to the Banks regarding repayment of loans given to a
co-operative society. The Co-Op's chief is a BJP MLA. Its assets are
reported to be about 5 crore but it has loans upto 50 crore for which State
Government is the Guarantor. Since the assets of the Co-op is not sufficient
to recover the loan and since state government did not honour its guarantee,
the Bank has approached the court to attach Mantralaya.

Several Co-ops sponsored by Congress Politicians also have similar defaults.
Not only in Maharashtra. Similar cases have been reported from Himachal & UP
as well. HP & UP Governments have already paid up the loans using taxpayers'
money without waiting for attachment orders. As Banks seek to enforce the
new securitization law more and more, more cases will come out. I am sure
that this swindle is taking place in all states. Take loans in the name of a
co-op, swallow it and force state government repay it with taxpayers' money.
That is why politicians of all hues wants to treat co-ops as holy cow. They
oppose liberalization because it will reduce their avenues for such swindle.
