[nukkad] The fascination with Francois Gautier

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is hard to believe that a man is telling the truth when you
know that you would lie if you were in his place.-" H. L. Mencken

The fascination with Francois Gautier

I don't understand the fascination with Francois Gautier. He is
certainly a good writer and he does write stuff that people want
to read but his fans seem to hang on to his every word as if it
were the truth.

In the 'Cry, My Beloved India' article that Gireesh posted, he
says "history shows us that the worst enemies of Hindus are
Hindus themselves" and then writes "The Gujarat riots, however
horrible, signalled for the first time that Hindus were not
going to take things lying down; they were sending a strong
warning to their enemies."

As reprehensible as that sentence is, it shows that he can't
seem to decide who the enemies of Hindus are. If his first sentence
is right, his second is wrong and vice versa. He writes in sound
bites that when quoted sound grand but there is no cohesion to
the overall idea. (A few weeks back someone (I think it was Gireesh
but I could be wrong) posted another of his articles on how the
English-language Indian press does not print articles by authors
like him. Guess where that article originally appeared?
In an English-language newspaper.)

He then goes on to talk about the government's abject failure in
foreign policy. He complains "From France to the US, from Saudi
Arabia to Malaysia, India is not taken seriously politically".
And this is the fault of Hindus? Will the 'awakening' of the Hindus
suddenly make everyone respect India? Does he explain how?
Obviously not.

I wish I had a dollar for every time sometime posted an article
by Francois Gautier to 'nukkad' (and accepted his opinion as the
truth). I would have enough for a swanky dinner and a movie.

Regards,

- Harshal
