Do you think that taking DOWRY is against your religion ? If yes,
then do you know any Gujrati family marriage which is performed without
taking dowry.

You are not aware of ground realities. My father married in 1948 and at that
time
my mother brought NO dowry. True, this depends from individual to
individual, but
problem of dowry is not a serious issue in Gujarat. Even the communities
like
Patels, Desais etc. which were ill known for dowry custom, have largely come
out
of it. And mind you mine is neither the first family nor the only family.
The marriage extravaganza you witness in Gujju weddings are not out of
compulsion
of dowry demand, but out of enthusiasm and willingness on the part of
parents to
give as much to their daughter as they can afford.

In near future my niece in Mumbai will get married and my cousin who is into
several hundred crores (we call him Ambani) is going to spend no less than
possibly 10 crores for the marraige accompanied by a large charity. Would
you call
it a case of dowry ????

Every father likes to give something to their daughter and people who do not
understand this feeling easily liken it to the nuisance of dowry.

On the whole Gujarati samaj is a fast changing and moving society.

State wise, the worst problem of dowry is in Kerala. Surprisingly, it is
worst in
christians, lesser in Muslims and the least in Hindus !!
