Sorry, there is NO dowry in Muslims. The boy gives Meher to the girl.

It sounds incredible, I agree. Hence I used the word : "surprisingly".
Living in Mumbai you could not have direct touch with Muslims from
other parts of India, especially the Mopla variety from Mallapuram,
Kasarkode
and Kozhikode districts. The going rate of a Muslim doctor groom is
astonishing
Rs. 20 lakhs and upwards.
In 25 years that I am living with Moplas in Dubai, I see no sign of this
ugly dowry
system abating among Muslims. The sum keeps mounting with inflation !
More or less the same is true for christians too, particularly the Achayan
kinds.
Hindus, prone to change as they are elsewhere, are much ahead in
eradicating/minimizing        this social non-sense.
I must say that other than Kerala Muslims (save some Tamil muslims, of APJ
Abdul
Kalam kind)it is the man in Muslim societies who pays meher to girl's father
as              mentioned by you.
