When I first read Rand, i found it very interesting
and strongly written, though not holistic. I think
that the points she raises are all valid, humans are
social animals and some human beings will always
contribute much more to the society than the others.
Functioning societies will have a suitable mechanism
to acknowledge this contribution - could be in terms
of money, position, power, respect. 
She also maintains that but for these contributions we
would be still living in the stone age which gives the
impression that others who are mediocre are not
important to progress, which is the major flaw in her
argument, society is like a body and the head and the
feet are both required for a successful venture. But
perhaps I misinterpret her becuase in one of her books
she puts forward a furnace operator who  is sincere
worker as a hero, which implies she was only against
free loaders or marx's communism where everyone is
supposed to be treated same.
One of the most interesting things was her prediction
of the way media would deviate from the ideal of facts
and truthful reporting to writing what the general
public wants to hear. In this light when I see media
abusing the power it holds today it does not surprise
or annoy me, I just feel that people should be aware
of what media is doing.
