gas lamps.

long ago a lady who had lived beyond an Age saw me
admire a lamp on her mantle piece in her victorian
drawing room where time stood still.

she asked me if i would accept it. after some 6 months
and on the right terms i did.

it was from her car, a daimler which used lighted lamps
for head lights!

i kept it for years and then the tides of time swept upon me
and it disappeared.

much later i saw it and it serves no purpose to say where.

it was crafted of alloy, which later would become gilt. i
would sit and polish away and marvel at the craftsmanship
of those times.

it had a thick lens to focus, and a well for the oil, and a little
clasp for the window.

i never lit it, because it's time was done.
