I beg to disagree the bacteria are dependent on the human body but need not 
die the moment the human stops living. I guess its a long time since you did 
your II MBBS, and Bacteriology by Cruickshank, but certainly there is enough 
for the bacteria to continue living. In cases where the corpse has been 
undiscovered, the body bloats caused by the metabolism o f  the 
bacteria/fungi/viruses. This bloating may cause a decrease in the 
density/specific gravity but certainly the weight should continue to 
increase. The bacteria except for a selected few are certainly not 
fastidious about their food source. And in the absence of air, there are a 
fair number of anaerobic bacteria that continue to live
