---------------------------------------------------------------------------- A small town that cannot support one lawyer can always support two. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Pankajbhai, In the Bhagawad Gita, Krishna says that this material world is "dukhalayam - Asashwatam", meaning full of misery and impermanent. We have been sent to this world because we were envious of Krishna. Especially this yuga, the age of Kali, Kaliyuga, is very dnagerous. It is the age of quarrel and hypocrisy. The human being in this world has the following defects: (1) He has the propensity to lie and cheat (2) He has the propensity to live like an animal: eating sleeping, mating and defending, four things that even lowly animals do. (3) He has the propensity to forget Krishna and be deluded into thinking that he is the lord of all his possessions, wife, family, bank balance, etc. (4) We are full of kama (lust), krodha (anger), lobha (greed) and moha (illusion). Just think about it: Even little things like candy, oor sweets that we like are bad for our health and things we do not like, bitter or bland tasteless stuff is good for us. When we lsut after the objects of sense gratification and do not achieve them, then we get angry. From anger, delusion arises. Thus, when men (boys) lust after material benefits that they could obtain from the prospective father-in-law, this dowry problem arises. I would like to narrate a personal incident. In my engineering college in Mumbai, I had my best friend who was from the Marwari Jain community. His father had a printing press and had three sons and four daughters. My frined told me that to get his four sisters married, his father and three brothers will have work day and night and they may still not be able to save the printing press, as it may have to be sold to pay the girls' dowries. When every being in this world (man, woman, child) will think of every other living being as the son of God just like himself/herself, then only wrongs like dowries and their attendant crimes of bride burning will stop. I urge every nukkad member to please contemplate this in their thoughts. I am open for discussion, my email is given below.
