Re: [nukkad] Dowry

The difference between perseverance and obstinacy is that one comes from
a strong will, and the other from a strong won't. -- Henry Ward Beecher

Dear Bharat-ji,

I agree completely with your thought, only my thinking is slightly
different. I think, the drive to not-cheat, not-lie, not-lust, should come
from oneself. In that, I believe in the philosphy: the God and the Devil,
they both live inside you. I don't own everything and everybody--but I own
those relationships. Unless I take that responsibility, I am as incomplete
and fallible as the infected seed--unfit for consumption, useless for
sowing.

The feeling of ownership comes in different forms--it is only important to
know what we do and fight for it. For example, if you think, Bharat-ji, you
can make a difference to the society, or help people becoming better
persons, you are taking that responsibility. You own that part of the
relationship with your surroundings, and it wouldn't help if you left that
responsibility with Krishna.

However, the difference might also be due to the fact that I believe that
there is only the present. I believe there would be no future-lives, no
retributions, no heaven or hell. This belief makes me work that much harder,
that much more competitive--and yes, make me be that much more fierce about
what I own. This doesn't mean that I would try to steal others'
possessions--material or otherwise; but this certainly mean that I will take
control of mine. False sense of ownership? I don't think so--not from my
point of view.

Best regards,
Pankaj
