Dear All,

Although Arya's question is directed at a philosophical tangent, I
will try, briefly, to list what I have actually gained from Nukkad -
both materially and spiritually:

Nukkad made me a better human being. This may sound a bit
trashy/profound depending on the way one looks at it, but it is true.
My thoughts on several difficult issues have got
polarised/crystallised and this has definitely helped me to know
myself better.

My knowledge on computers/technology/internet has widened
considerably, although not as much as the other two doctors on the
list, and considerably more than the doctor-lawyer with us. I have
accessed sites, downloaded programmes, evaluated utilities and done so
much else ... in fact, when I have given the occasional advice to
others on such matters, I have even received plaudits for the same!

Some of our members have actually purchased my book (three, to be
precise,) and helped me earn about Rs. 78/= as profit! However, I am
still looking for them to send Nukkad a review of how the book was :-(

I can say without hesitation that the Nukkad meetings that have been
held so far has made me friends from different fields of life -
engineers, builders, computer types, philosophers, housewives,
collegians, and what not. This has considerably widened my "circle of
influence" and brought me a little fame, if not much. But, aside of
that, meeting the faces behind the squiggles has a spiritually
uplifting effect that has to be experienced by everyone. It really
dissolves all the differences we have on the forum and we become all
as one big family when we meet in the flesh. Alas, this activity has
dwindled in the past three years and I am looking forward to when it
can be resumed. It is not as if out-station Indians have NOT come to
Mumbai; they have, and in fact, they even expressed a desire to meet,
but things did not materialise and the meetings never got held. I
think perhaps the time has come to hold Nukkad's first-ever
international meet in India ... but is anyone willing to release
themselves from their real-lives and chase such a dream?

Nukkad's various posts have alternately charmed and alarmed,
entertained and shocked, informed and misinformed ... and this has
been sometimes trivial, but most often useful stuff that has enriched
my knowledge.

Through Nukkad, I have been able to contribute to a couple of social
causes, both in kind and in cash.

I have looked into the souls of some of the Nukkies and got a glimpse
of the person within - even WITHOUT actually meeting them. In
particular, I would refer to Sai, Vasu, MCG, Anna, Deepak, Gireesh,
Rawat (who is not with us on the forum, but I hope to meet him one
day), Carola, Aryaji, and several others.

I have attended the wedding of Ninad, brother of Harshal, the
webmaster of Nukkad. Thus, I have gained gastronomically too!

Have I lost anything?

Not much, unless you count the time and the cost of accessing the net ...
