He can be recalled. But only before the next batsman is in, and has
taken strike. I've seen 5-6 instances of an umpire doing so. I dont
remember who it was but said umpire recalled Tendulkar after having
given him out first ball to Mcgrath in the DLF CUP in Kuala Lumpur in
2006.

A fielding captain (if he has got the "integrity") can REQUEST an
umpire to call the batsman back (withdrawing his appeal) if he thinks
that the batsman was adjudged wrongly. The final dcision remains with
the umpire. With Bucknor, pride comes in here. "Maine ek baar jo keh
diya, vahi patthar ki lakeer hai"

In this case, it wasnt Benson/Bucknor who gave the decision, it was
Ponting himself. No question of integrity, pride or whatever when you
talk of someone like that.

It funny how I had so much respect for Ponting before this series.
