The following table gives good insight into the American society
of a hundred years ago. The Negros and other coloured people
were oppressed beyond a common man's comprehension.
Their treatment at the hands of the superior Whites hit layers lower
than the rock bottom status high caste Hindus accorded to the
pariah. For insignificant ' crimes ' such as talking loudly, being merely
present in women's room, often for ' deemed crimes ' and very often for
' no conceivable offence ' the white mobs lynched the black men to pieces,
in wide daylight view of the law enforcers.
