Hi , Got this piece from another friend. It is shocking as
well disheartening.
Thousands of Pakistanis and Indians try illegally to go to
Europe or
America in search of a bright future. Many illegal attempts
ends in
tragedy. Most of the aspirants want to travel to Europe
either
through Turkey or Russia. Here is the story of one teenager
from
Lahore, aired on BBC.
"I first
approached a travel agent who demanded $200 for a visa for
Kazakhstan...........Our eight-member group got an easy entry when we
arrived in Kazakhstan. There I met my nephew who told me that he
could arrange my travel to Germany. He was working there for the last
12 years and had handled 20,000 cases like mine," he said.
He
recalled they boarded a Moscow-bound train and reached there after
a
journey of six days and seven nights and bribed the immigration
staff there to get entry.
"We stayed in Moscow for the night and
then headed for Ukraine by car
but they sent us back as we had no
visas. We succeeded in crossing
the Ukrainian border by foot and
reached its capital Kiev. After
three days' stay in Kiev, I gave money
to an agent for a fake visa
stamp on his passport. I was
arrested twice in Kiev, the first time I
was lucky and got freed. But
for the second time I was jailed for
three months where I was
severely beaten by a drunkard guard. The
conditions in the
prison were miserable. When I applied for refugee
status, they
asked me to pay some fine which I paid and then they
released me
and asked me to get a Ukrainian visa in 15 days,
otherwise they
would send me home. Within the given period I arranged
a fake visa. My
stay in Ukraine lasted for one year and three
months. By paying
$700 to another agent we planned to cross the
Polish border. We went
in a car and when the motorway ended we then
walked for three
days through thick forest and then reached the
border. We cut
the fence with a cutter and crossed the border, but
the Polish
guards saw us when we were trying to help one of our
members who was
sick. The Polish border guards untied their big
dogs. We ran but
were detained. They kept us in a prison for 15 days
but served
us with good food. When we told them that we want to go to
Europe,
they stamped our passports and ordered our return back to
Ukraine.
After about three months, we succeeded in crossing the
Polish
border but were arrested when we entered the city and
sentenced to two
months. We applied for refugee status in Poland and
get refused.
We paid $400 to cross the German border but again we
were arrested.
Then we applied for the refugee status and got
permission to
stay. We travelled to Belgium and Holland from Germany
by train
as these countries have open borders. So, there was not much
trouble.
Then I went to Spain with plans for onward journey to
France.
The French authorities caught me in the train. I filed a case
for
refugee status and got stay. Then I got a job in Paris and worked
there for one month. I contacted an agent and travelled for
eight
hours in the rear of a lorry to cross the English border.
Then the
agent picked me from the jungle and dropped me in
London".
