 MAN'S BETRAYAL
 Here is a small poem by an English poet which I read 40 years ago but have
not forgotten since. Was it by Robert Browning? I do not know. May be Homi
might know. [The poem itself was probably written in the 19th century].

 What charm can soothe her melancholy,
 What art can wash her guilt away?
 The only art her guilt to cover,
 To hide her shame from every eye;
 To give repentance to her lover,
 To ring his bosom is - to die."

Could this ever have been written today? The writer would have shunned from
doing so, because it would not be politically correct. And if he ventured,
he might have been lynched by women's groups and their supporters [myself
included].
