[nukkad] Sold Cheap

WHY WAS I SOLD SO CHEAP?

Why was I sold for so little in this bazaar of life?

Before I knew what was love, I was given someone to love
Who had given her heart to someone, whose face I would never see.

Now autumn years are here, and we sit hand in hand in the evening hours
Feeling the emptiness for someone, somewhere out there, both she, and I

Would that I could be the one she saw the last time by the side of the well
And gave her heart and troth, as he to her, and promised to never ever tell.

Evening hours are cold hours and they beset old bones as though stones.

Before the light fades, may she meet her Someone she has pined for.
I will embrace him and give him what was always his ...

[There is a movement at the door. It opens and a man comes in from the
rainy courtyard in the gray evening light. Without a word she rises and
goes to him. Both embrace. He takes his outer coat and places it around
her shoulders. Both turn to the door and without a backward glance step
onto the wet threshold, turn and are gone. The rain increases it's pitch.
Darkness besets the world in more ways than one.

He, after three score years, is at last entirely alone. He hugs himself to
ward
off the creeping cold, for the fires have died. Suddenly aging, he seems to
mutter,

"I never told her ... he came, she went, I never told ... my cup is full."

The skies suddenly turn tumultuous and vast rivers of rain beset the lonely
old
house, now engulfed in darkness.

A story which never began, ends.
