Response to Milind's mail,....in response to Nelson's mail.......

Hi Folks,
Tried to keep myself off the debate from the onset........but when I decided
to join in, was duly helped by Harshal too in refraining.....as he kept one
of my postings off the list...no complaints though..its his right....
but this mail and the incident narrated wants me to tell my side of incident
too........

It was indeed a pleasant surprise to read about the change in Nana Patekar's
salutations ( oh sorry, Shri Nana Patekar) in Atlanta!!
But strangely it reminds me of the Filmfare Award Ceremony in 1990, then
when I was in Bombay, where he was awarded the Best Actor for
'Parinda'...and I distinctly remember this same actor had accepted the award
FOR a HINDI film and very arrogantly gave the thanks giving speech in
Marathi and ended with a 'Jai Maharashtra'....
and in Atlanta he tries to be magnanimous.......wow!

Anyways, it was good to know that, opportunistically, he felt, "Hum apasme
hi uljhe hue hain"....humbly or not......point to ponder.

Well, I wanted to make a point here, with the courage of my convictions,
that please can it be understood by Nana, and the likes on the issue,...that
had it not been for Hindi Cinema --where he got extensive national
exposure-- that he would have died hard acting his best in 'his regional'
films but he would not have been 'the Nana Patekar' what he is today (And
ofcourse, I do not doubt that he is a talented actor). The shows of 'Purush'
would not have been sold with his name as the USP had it not been for the
obvious abovesaid reason.

And if I am born not-a-Maharashtrian and born a-north-Indian, it is just a
matter of chance and not by any other virtue..........that does not make me
feel one up or low to any other state/language or whatever.....if I speak
Hindi it is because that region spoke mainly Hindi..and if Hindi happened to
be the National Language, it is just because some or the other 'one'
language had to be chosen as the national one...
Just as simply rose was not chosen but Lotus was chosen as the National
Flower
Just as peacock was chosen as the national bird over any other bird....
Just as............

Just for FYI....during the same time period the same Nana, along with the
good singer Suresh Wadkar, and one more
regionally-boasting-but-basking-in-the-national-glory-of-fame-and-money-by-H
indi-Films-brigade-guy, they all had decided to form, and did, a group that
in any such public function they would speak only in Marathi.........How
smart and regionally patriotic..............

But sadly, though they always were awarded for their works but me, poor
non-Maharashtrian, somehow never got to know their achievements...till
ofcourse...you know...they got awards in the mainstream............blah,
blah, blah.

Regards
Ragini
PS: reply to any of Nelson 's postings from my side, using the 'reply all'
key...copy to Nelson bounces back .....please check that Nelson.
