Only Telugus are called 'gulti'. It is 'telugu' read reverse with some
modification. This knowledge was given to me by a Marathi friend.
All Maharashtrians are not 'ghati'. Ghatis are those not from Konkan, the
coastal region. Ghati is meant to be derogatory, in the sense that they are
lesser than the coastal people.
In Bengal too, this division exists. 'Ghoti' and 'Baangaal'. From West
Bengal and Bangla Desh respectively. The connotations are same as in
Maharashtra.
Disclaimer: I personally never call anyone by any name other than his/her
official name. For me, a Jayalalitha is Jayalalitha, not even Jaya.
Thanks and Regards,
Vilas D. Virdhe
