Dear Nukkies
This is response to Sharad’s message.
>>Why is the nation the motherland. Shouldn't the world be the >>motherland.
>>Why should you discriminate a non-Indian for no being >>born within the
>>geographic boundary? This is wrong. We have to >>start recognising
>>ourselves as citizens of the world and not of a >>nation.
Indeed noble gestures and intentions Sharad. But just tell me how practical
is it? If everyone in the world thought like you there would have been no
problems at all. But the reality is quite different. Just try doing this.
Cross over the border to Pakistan and try to preach your sermon of universal
brotherhood and peace there and feel for yourself the reception that they
will provide you. One step further try the same in Afghanistan. You may not
be back alive to participate in this forum. Friend no one desires war
everyone needs peace. But unfortunately not everyone around you and me are
kind hearted and peace loving. A world without national boundaries as
suggested by you will be nothing but a theatre of anarchy where the
physically and economically mighty force others into submission. Hence
national boundaries are erected so that the subject’s are protected and
their culture and identity is preserved.
>>Why should you discriminate a non-Indian for no being born within >>the
>>geographic boundary? This is wrong.
I agree with you it is wrong. But tell me are Indians the only race/group to
practice this. Have you ever been treated as a fellow human brother while
you are away from India? Are you ever been treated on par with the locals in
all walks of life? My guess is no. So why blame Indians alone. Any change in
this direction should be global and binding on everyone.
>>This is a flaw in the education system that makes us treat the >>nation
>>like motherland and sacrifice our life bla.. bla. bla..just >>because our
>>ancestors fought a freedom struggle.
Every national anthem starts with praising the country, whether it is God
save our Queen or God save New Zealand or Bharata Bhagya Vidhata jaya hai.
Every nation has a pledge which urges the citizen to love his nation above
all. This is nothing unique to India and if you feel that this is because of
the flaw in the educational system, then education system all around the
world is flawed. Needing to love ones country in no way means one should
hate other countries. About our ancestors taking part in the freedom
struggle, just because me and you didn’t take part in it does not mean that
we should belittle their sacrifices. Remember you, me and every Indian owe a
lot to them and their efforts. Had we not achieved freedom, India would have
become another colonial outback where the indigenous population would have
been ghettoised. Look at how the indigenous Maori population in New Zealand
is placed now. Also indigenous Aborigines in Australia and Red Indians in
Canada. Belonging to a different generation does not in any way give us any
right to trash the past achievements.
>>Look beyond Kashmir, Pakistan and a few fundamentalist nations and >>you
>>will see that national boundaries are being dissolved for >>mutual
>>benefit.
Hello, just closing your eyes shut does not bring night. It just brings an
illusory darkness. Please cite me an instance of national boundaries being
dissolved with the exception of East and West Germany. Well I can cite a
dozen examples of new national boundaries being created,
Yugoslavia breaking up into Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia, Macedonia and maybe
Kosovo.
Czechoslovakia now becoming Czech and Slovak republics.
Soviet Union breaking up into Russia, Ukraine etc etc.
I’m in no way advocating creation of new nations, but this is the harsh
reality as opposed to your dream of global world. In case you are referring
to EEC, well it is just an economic confederation between developed European
nations. Individual national boundaries still exist and any notion of this
being a precursor to a single Europe is just a Utopian pipedream. Also you
are suggesting looking beyond Kashmir, Pakistan and a few fundamentalist
nations. Will that in any way solve the problems faced by India?
Unfortunately most of the India’s problems can be attributed to these very
factors and hence cannot be brushed aside.
>>would really like to have a response from all those who bragged >>about
>>being Indian first and ended all their mails with 'Jai Hind'
Not me. However let me put forward my view that “Jai Hind” is in no way
offending anyone. It is only an expression by an individual of feeling proud
of his nation and motherland. It is not unique to Indians. Any American will
be proud of US, British will be proud of England. Why I have come across
many New Zealanders and Australians who proudly explain about their
Scottish/Irish ancestry. So why single out Indians alone.
Bye
