Teddy Bear It was a typical Saturday morning around my house.I had just gotten up and started getting my things together for a trip to California. In walked my little Grandson,Justin who started with Questions "Grandpa,Where are you going?" "California." "Why?" "For Work" "How Long?" "For a Week" "How long is that?" "Five days" "Is Grandma going with you?" "No" "Why Not?" "She has to Work" "Why?" "So we can afford to pay the rent",I joked. He didn't understand the humor and I could see the next question bubbling in his face "Won't you be lonely without Grandma?". "Yes,I will." His face immediately showed concern beyond his years. He returned shortly holding a brightly colored little Teddy bear.He said "Grandpa, here, take Mr.William and he will keep you company?" I thought for a minute and said "Sure, that will be great". He smiled to think that now Grandpa would have a friend, and left room running to tell Grandma what he had done.I put the little doll on the bed and finished packing my bags. After Lunch,I was ready to leave for the airport, and guess who was accompanying with me to the airport?Little Justin. We all got into the car and headed to the airport.I Checked my bags and started saying my good-byes.As I turned to Justin, I saw him holding the teddy bear.He said "Grandpa, you almost forgot Mr.William." "Gee,Justin ,Thanks," I said.. Now picture this a 48 year old man walking through the airport with his teddy bear.Very bright and colorful.I know everybody was looking at me. I finally got to my seat on the plane and sat down holding the teddy bear .My attention was drawn to the gentleman sitting in the next seat.He appeared very sad.I started a conversation and quickly learned that his wife had died recently and he was going to visit his grandchildren.I shared with him why I was carrying the teddy bear.He laughed.I handed it to him and he took it and smiled. Although he felt a little silly at first, his sadness seem to subside and he was in better spirits during the flight. Later on the same flight,I heard a little boy a few rows behind me complaining loudly.I was upset because the boy was Justin's age.I decided to see if I could help.I got up and walked to his seat and asked the mother if there was anything I could do to help,She Said no, he was just scared.I went back to my seat and asked the man holding Mr.William if I could borrow him.He smiled as if he knew that what I was going to do.I asked the little boy if he could keep Mr.William company, because it was Mr.Williams first flight and Mr.William was lonely and scared. He said softly "yes" with a twinkle in his eyes and smile came to his face. The little boy was quiet the rest of the flight. The boy returned the Teddy bear as he got off the plane and instructed me to take good care off Mr.William.I reflected on my trip and realized that I had brought a lot of happiness into those two people lives with my teddy bear.It is such a simple thing, but so powerful. It was then that I realized that it is the small things that we do that make a difference.
