Dear Nukks;

In the wake of new wave requiring Software Professionals in Europe. I personally would like to make certain things clear about the European countries, Especially about Italy ( Where I am currently working ). The intention of this message is not to discourage anyone but just to make you aware about the facts.

In Italy the language is the major barrier, Hardly anyone speaks English here. And even if few of them know English the Italians are hesistant to communicate in English.

There is no English Newspaper Published in Italy.

There are no English Channels on the TV. Well but there is possibility to install your own satellite dish and receive English Channels.

It was a great surprise for me to find that the women are not getting equal rights in the jobs. Majority of the women are doing the secretarial jobs only. India is much more advanced in this matter than this G7 member.

The racism is a very common bad experience here. Italians do think that the house-maid workers and the IT professionals are of same catagory. They have not yet learnt the difference between a hi-tech software professional and a domestic servent. 

Arranging visa for your spouse is a difficult ( Not Impossible ) and time consuming task. The main problem is the childrens education. All the schools medium of instructions is Italian. (Only exception is American School but its very costly)

Upgrading your knowledge is a great problem here. Hardly there are any universities or Institutions offering courses in English.

After the formation of European Union the things are changing but very slow. I absolutely agree that the software professionals should start exploring the other developed markets. 

To conclude think twice before selecting non English speaking Countries as your future destination.
