I think u r absolutely right, the technology which he is referring to as
outdated, is his misunderstanding. Actually UNIX & C is the CORE technology
in IT field. VB, JAVA is definitely HOT now a days but the CORE behind all
this FRONT-ENDS is a SERVER & it usually runs on UNIX or WINDOWS whose
system programming is still in C or C++ or ASSEMBLY. So I think if anybody
is teaching him UNIX or C then I request him not to have any prejudiced
views. Today many IT companies r finding it extremely difficult to get
skilled persons in UNIX & C.

	What were u doing before ???
	Try doing IT in that field instead of pure IT.

	I keep telling people all the time if u have another field over
which you have
	more control take IT into that field. Unlike me, I dont know
anything except
	computers. But those who know dont want to use that knowledge. 
	Of course the dollars may or may not come running to you but in the
longer run
	everything will work out the same and you will be satisfied to have
worked in
	both the fields together.

	Well VB,JAVA is hot. But learn C and Unix bcos that is the core of
any
	computer Science related field. Or else u will turn out as a
computer
	programmer and not as a IT scientist.

	Remember THERE IS NO SHORTCUT TO SUCCESS.
