Re: [nukkad] Indian s/w cos = Japan auto makers?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tip of the day: Photos of Mumbai at:
              http://www.mumbai-central.com/album/
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I take this opportunity to share my experience with all Nukkies on
Quality...

My Name is Mukesh Jain
I was associated with ISO9000 & SEI CMM Level 3 & 4 companies (in India from
95-99)

I was involved in Documentation of the ISO9000 and SEICMM Levels 3,4 & 5
(s/w development process, company manual, etc.)

The major difference between Quality certified company and non-certified
company is:

-in Quality Certified (ISO or SEI CMM) company, all the processes followed
for Software Development is documented. Even how-to develop new s/w
development process is documented.

anybody and everybody (employee, vendors, customers, etc.) is informed about
the process. At every stage of development review is done by some expert.
all the results, reviews, meetings, bugs, etc. are documented. All the
documents are easily available to everybody.

This makes the process transparent and System oriented (instead of Person
oriented) and hence the Software Development is less prone to
human-error/mistakes. and the knowledge is retained in the company. (is not
drained out with the person, when he leave the company)

The other main reason is "Learn-from-Past", all these Quality oriented
companies (ISO and SEI) collect data (metrics) of everything during the
develoment process. So, when planning for next project, the manager/leader
is well prepared.

I hope this helps.

If anybody needs additional info. Please feel free to contact me directly.

Thanks
Mukesh Jain
