        I think our dear friend was a victim of working in a company or project, where quality was a forced one and thought as only paper work.

        I fully disagree with him. Read my comments below

Thanks to the guys who worte about ISO and CMM.
Frankly I am sure all are happy to know that ur respective companies are CMM 4
or ISO certified.

Good to know ur experiences.

Either of you did not mention a short coming of these two process
certifications.

[milind] there are a few short comings. Like extra time spent on maintaining paper work, etc. But ultimately advantages outweigh shortcomings.

SEI for example believes in paperwork. What I write on the paper is more
important  than what actually is done it seems.

[milind] this is true where maintaing quality is viewed as maintaining paperwork and nothing else. Good habbits are hard to establish. There has to be a attitude difference. I also know a few companies and projects where they finish everything and after the project is over they do the paper work and sign the backdated papers and documents. This is doing something for the sake of doing it. And will be of no advantage. The importance of maintaining papers and documents must be understood from a broader perspective. For example, if all of a sudden an employee leaves the project. If proper documents were not maintained about the work he did, then imagine the loss in terms of time and money the project will incurr. Also, documentation does not have to pe on a physical paper. Electronic documentation is also allowed and maintained at some places.

I thought the IT revolution was to make a paperless office.

FOR THAT MATTER NOBODY ASKS WHETHER MICROSOFT IS ISO or CMM certified. QUEER
AINT IT.

[milind] and everybody knows the problems Microsoft softwares has. It is a fact that very few people buy a new windows upgrade before Microsoft comes up with second, third, forth editions and versions and it becomes stable after some time.

Friends next time just give links to the SEI-CMM and ISO websites.

[milind] this is a good suggestion. But I thought that 'shal was asking about individual experiences. And I think everyone knows where and how to find these web sites. I am a new member to this list. And I dont really understand this suggestion. I thought the purpose of this mailing list is to have an open discussion on various topics. But your suggestion seems If I am mistaken, please let me know and I will not send detailed mails from the next time.

Stanadardization is good.
But saying that one who is not CMM is not at par with you is BULLSHIT.
Yes I have done this rigmarole of CMM certification for my branch as well.

[milind] nobody said that. The point which we(at least I was) were trying to make was that there is a better chance of producing quality work by following these quality standards.

For starters.. the CMM is a process certification while ISO is a product
certification.
