Wherever you give ear someone wails
It seems this is the universal voice of the universe
Strewn by human hand from freshly hewn earth.

Wherefore kindness, gentle gestures of mercy?
A hand reaching out to prevent a fall
A soft voice which says tomorrow is a better day
Someone being there for no other reason than that?

How weary the way for so many wayfarers
Going on to no one knows where one must go
With companions of blood who draw blood
With lovers of yore who devourer gore.

Would that there were a Friend
But nay, she too would have to fade at the end.
