It is a Catch 22 situation...

------I agree with you prison should not be fun. But how many of the federal
prisoners on no parole can we think of who have died unknown
deaths....atleast, i can still see them living glorified lives.... cult
figure criminals, rapists, predators, sex offenders many of them being
interviewed, written about in print media, on and off visited and revisited
by TV cameras.....autobiographies and biographies shelled out. They live on.
Afterall, the civilized society cannot ignore them even if they are on no
parole sentence. right? Do u think he would have lived an anonymous and
degrading life even if he was sent to Mississippi prison for a lifetime with
no parole..business deals would have continued.
>Each of them will have to come to peace with themselves. Will all their
tragedy go away now that McVeigh has been executed
------ofcourse not, I don't even want to get into that meaningless
discussion of 'closure'.
>Do you support the practice of cutting off the hands of a thief or stoning
adulterers?
-------No, I absolutely do not support that but let us find out a way which
should inculcate a larger fear of crime in the criminal minds of successors
or followers.
>Would you rather have him quartered by wild horses? And put it on
pay-per-view?
--------i fail to even comment on this.
>Put it another way, if you think this punishment was too light, why not let
him live and let him feel the weight of his action?
------All for that with you. The society, the law makers, the think tanks
should come out with a 'kala pani' or punishment which inculcates fear for
the next similar heinous act.
Suggest a fair, right, deservable, justified, appropriate punishment which
should be meted out to hardcore criminal minds..
>Decision makers too are humane, answerable, and i presume, we all realise
punishment decided upon is meant not only to punish the wrong doer but also
as a lesson to the society.
And I do not want to go off the point in discussion.
It is a vicious circle.
