FROM NUKKAD TO UKKAD

Which is the  extent of anyone's journey anywhere.

One begins from an ukkad, an anteroom, at birth, and ventures to look for
something, someone, somewhere on the highroads of life. The journey is
tiresome and wears out the traveler, so he or she waits a while at some
nukkad, and then ventures forth, to at last return, at the end, to that
ukkad from which there is no return.

No one stays long at the nukkad, for it is in essence a halfway house.
Wayfarers come, some able, some with an ulterior motive, some to teach while
needing to learn, some to learn when they should be teaching, some to take,
pilfer, loot, some to give and forgive, some to mend hearts, others to
ravage them.

Sometimes a lover comes and waits, looking for the one without whom life is
barren. This one waits and watches and hopes, for the journey has been long
and forlorn. Yet that someone else does not appear, and the seeker sadly
moves on at dawn, and the same evening the one sought after arrives only to
miss the mark.

To many, the toils of the journey embroil, and begin to look like the ukkad,
the destination. To many, the where is not yet known, nor the why, so that
when the real place is reached, it is not recognized, and passed in the
night, and never found again.

For the nukkad is a halfway house on a one way street of no return.
