Coldmale: Sabeer Bhatia's Arzoo.com shuts down

Arzoo.com, the purported ultimate e-commerce destination launched by Hotmail
founder Sabeer Bhatia announced that it has shut down all of its operations.
A message signed by Sabeer Bhatia, and addressed to "friends of Arzoo", said
the shutdown was "necessitated by the severe downturn in the US economy,
which has resulted in a slowdown in corporate spending, especially for any
new products and services."

The message said the company's blue-chip beta customers have postponed
purchasing decisions to either later this year or sometime next year.

And, "for a small company like ours, we cannot survive on promises of future
purchase," it said.

Bhatia says the company's board and management, therefore, decided to shut
down operations "in these tough economic times".

A final note re-emphasises the site's potential, although, Bhatia says "this
is just not the right time to introduce such a service".

"Once again, we strongly believe in this model, but unfortunately this is
just not the right time to introduce such a service to our corporate
partners, all of who are engaged in what some call a ruthless cost-cutting
exercise."

Sabeer Bhatia is best known for revolutionising the concept of e-Mail with
the hugely successful Hotmail, which he co-founded and later sold to
Microsoft. <<
