THE REAL REASON FOR LABELING HINDUS

It's cash, guys. Other than that, these are surrogate the reasons:

ECONOMICAL REASONS
1. Hindus hold significant sector in business at street level, with some
Pedhis there since 400 years.
2. Almost always they send the profits to Matra Bhumi leaving Afghanistan
with zilch.
3. Bunches of Talibans want to grab these and this is a pretty good start
towards cash.

THEOLOGICAL REASONS
1. Hindus are not Ahele-Kitab, not from the accepted group of non-Moslems.
Other examples are Bahai, Ahmedi, Parsi, Buddhists, Shinto. Madly enough,
Jews are OK, but despised anyway.
2. Where there are Hindus there are bound to be temples, so there are
temples, very old ones, in the galis of Kabul and Kandhahar, where old Shiva
sits with his serpents, or there maybe a Krishna with a Radha someplace, or
horror of horrors, a buxom Lakshmi all hips and gold. A literal red flag to
Taliban sensibilities.
3. When they shot down Buddha the fate of Hindu gods was sealed, it was a
matter of time.

POLITICAL REASONS
1. Talibans if you were to meet them on Marine Drive look just like a bunch
of Lucknowis or Dehliwalas. Remember, they are a product of Pakistan schools
of dharma and have a lot of the culture under their belt. Most are 40 to 50
and speak English and are probably fun to be with, unless you are Hindu and
the wrong side of the border. Or Shia.
2. Major funders of the non-existent economy are Saudia and other Gulf
nations which run Sunni [Iran is Shia, Saddam is Shia, Pakistan is Sunni
with a noisy Shia minority]. So off and on some saber rattling is in order
if the cash is to continue. Hence the Badges.

MEDIA REASONS
You've got to be kidding. What else is going to go up American noses than
picking on a minority and slapping labels on them! So this got lots of
attention and will, I am betting, stay in memory over the next 3 months. Get
ready for a "smuggled" photo, which is to say snap shots released by
clandestine parties in Peshawar, of a yellow badge Ram Prasad Sharma, or
Elayya malaiya Utpattamvelucharya to agents of CNN and Reuters, they are
always hanging around the colonial cafes.
