Afghanistan is a mainstream trading partner and backed
by Saudia.
And the babus don't want to buck the delicate
dollar bucket which Saudia sustains.
Aren't the folks trapped there citizens of India?
Afghanistan is not a mainstream trading partner. Afghanistan in the days of
the communist regime was friendly with Delhi. Butthat functioned on a "The
enemy of my enemy, is my friend". Any trade with Afghanistan is a lose-lose
deal fro the Indian Government.
The Saudi Government like most autocratic monarchy's in teh region are
supportive of Islamist tendencies, but trust me they do not support the
Taliban. They have seen the disasters and the way the entire "Islamist
rebels" without a cause have wreaked havoc on their own societies. There are
hugely succesful bussiness houses that support these causes within them The
Bin Laden group in Saudi Arabia is the largest trading house in Saudi
Arabia. But ofoucrse now Osama is the black sheep of the family.
And finally the most contentious issue which i have commented in the past.
The hindu's in Afghanistan are NOT Indian citizens. Unlike the Indians in
Fiji, East Africa etc these people always lived in Afghanistan and are
Afghan nationals.
When these countries are prosperous no former Indian or Hindu looks at India
in anymanner other than disgust and the satisfaction that they have nothing
to do with a nation so corrupt. turn the balance ever so slightly and
allegiances are out to the fore with screams for help. Help should of course
be rendered, but I certainly objectto them being classified Indians
especially when they have themselves scoroned the mother land before.
I agree discrimination of any kind is abominable and one needs to fight it
but to pull on the strings of a sentimental "sitar" in times of NEED ALONE
is as despicable
