Unfortunately this isnt the reason for female infanticide. That warrants 
from discrimination, which is at the root of several problems that plague 
our society. I have seen this discrimination amongst well-educated people in 
Bombay who were definitely well-off to the point where the reasons were not 
financial. Women are still considered a burden, that is why the infanticide. 
I know several girls in India who wanted to become engineers or doctors and 
had the potential, but their fathers who were engineers and doctors 
themselves didnt see the point of educating a girl to that extent. The one 
thing I dont understand is how can mothers and grandmothers who are women 
themselves be just as discriminating. This line of thought I am sure exists 
among members of this mailing list also, for it was only a few weeks ago 
that someone on this list voiced their opinion to me that

"I think that the girls r stupid n brainless creatures."

Lastly I am not agreeing with Point #8 above, in my opinion that line of 
thought is also questionable but atleast there is some logic to it unlike 
blind discrimination.
