Dear Vishwas,
I have worked for several years in US & Canada and yes, what you mention is 
prevailent.In India too if there is an area,restaurant,movie theatre 
etc,etc., where members of one community are present and if anyone from 
another community,class,color,status in life,etc., enters there are stares  
and similar reactions as you mention. Not racism, but NON-ACCEPTANCE of 
another persons differences whatsoever.It's not only on race that you are 
considered "different" so it can't be termed racism according to me..All 
this is due to a society values which generate superiority,pureness,fear of 
the unknown,herd mentality,and so on.
My observation is that there is a 'MINORITY SYNDROME" which is prevailent in 
human beings. I have close German,Irish,Scottish friends in Canada who feel 
they are discriminated by the  people of "British origin". On  the other 
hand I have some friends of British origin who have worked with me in 
US,Germany and who feel there is a lot of discrimination towards them in 
those countries. Discriminsation as a universal language. The only common 
factor is that they are all in the "MINORITY" in each of those 
circumstances.Everyone tolerates it only because they are in circumstances 
which are needed to be in at that present time. Whether for money,status,job 
needs,way or standard of life or other reasons.
A solution which I adopt,is be nice to all people and if they choose to 
ignore or hurt your feelings, choose to ignore them, and develop 
relationships with those who are "UNIVERSAL BEINGS".Life is too wonderful to 
waste time brooding over such issues.Discrimination has so many faces that 
you will see it everywhere if you look for it.Ignore it and it looses face 
and you find people wonderful!TRY IT!
