folks
cow slaughtering is one issue which has caused a lot of bad blood in both
communities.
pls note that muslims eat beef not bcoz it is worshipped by hindus but bcoz
it has been ordained as halal (lawful) by Islam. its not done intentionally
to hurt the sentiments of hindus. further, i know a lot of hindus also who
eat beef.
if the concern is abt animal rights, we shud also stop consuming milk or
milk products since cows milk is only meant for her calf (like milk of all
other mammals) and not for human beings. can we stop consuming milk or its
products ? cows are even injected with chemicals to extract the maximum out
of them. n what abt the hungry calf to whom we have deprived of her mothers
milk. aren't these exploitation and violation of animal rights ?
lets not forget that we have to maintain the ecological balance also. the
following report by FAO will substantiate this further :
"At 430 million, India has the second largest cattle population in the
world, and the number far exceeds the economic use to which they can be put.
In fact, research has shown that a significant proportion of the cattle
population is dying through shortage of food and disease since farmers
cannot sustain such a large number of animals. Livestock census figures
place female buffaloes under the age of three years at 17.3 million, and
male buffaloes of the same age at 7.3 million. These figures suggests that
farmers are killing animals which they cannot put the economic use.
According to the FAO, from 1981 to 1992 the buffalo population in the
country increased by 19 percent, while the slaughter rate increased only
marginally from 9 to 10.9 percent.
The current fodder shortage of 36 percent in the country is predicted to
rise to 41 percent by the year 2000. Land resources are static, and when
posed with the exponential growth in the human and animal population, it is
clear that the animal population must be controlled in order to allow for
sustainable development."
Should we still campaign against cow slaughter ?
human beings by nature are born omnivorous. comments on this are welcome...

O.K., so will you campaign against cow slaughter?
