Hi Vaibhav,
Yes there are alternatives. Unfortunately we don't seem to have people at the helm (in both countries) that can see this.
I will try to answer within your e-mail. Please bear with me (and please don't bare with me ;-).

Re: Following are some of the questions, which came to my mind:
Re:
Re: 1. What are India and Pakistan fighting over? Is it just a piece of Land,
Re: Kashmir?
It seems to be a sentiment. Nehru, having come from J&K, decided that it is an integral part of India and that we must have it. For this reason alone, you can be sure that Congress(I) is never going to have the spine to resolve this issue.
Re: 2. Why does Pakistan want Kashmir? Is it just because, it's a Muslim
Re: dominated State?
Yes. Absolutely. Of course nowadays the song has changed a little. They want the Kashmiris to determine their own destiny.
There is also another reason. And that reason goes all the way back to 1971, when India helped to dismember a part of Pakistan and create Bangladesh. Curiously, the complaints from the erstwhile East Bengal of mismanagement of resources and exploitation is currently being heard from the J&K of today.

Re: 3. Is there no alternative to WAR?
Of course there are alternatives to war.
Re: Considering, India gives away Kashmir to Pakistan:
Re: 4.a. Will Pakistan stop all its Terrorist Activities?
Unfortunately there is NO guarantee of this. First of all they will thumb their noses at India in all public fora. Later we will have the bigger problem of facing THREE Islamic states on our borders (Pakistan, Kashmir and Bangladesh). The jobless Al Quaeda and the erstwhile Taliban could very well easily join hands and continue their dismemberment of India - claiming all the while exclusive use of a 800 (toll free) number with Allah which lets them do so.
Re: 5.b. Will Pakistan's greed stop with Kashmir?
Pakistan is a country that is very close to bankruptcy. The army generals running it are ensuring that their own Swiss bank accounts etc. are filled and are just biding their time. As soon as they see the writing on the wall, either Musharraf will be done away with or a new elected government in Pakistan will continue to be at the mercy of said generals. Pakistan's raison d'etre is being a purely Islamic republic. The creation of that state was to ensure that Muslims do not have to suffer at the hands of the Hindu majority. Thus, for an extreme few, the greed will never cease. There will always be Muslims in India that are 'suffering' at the hands of the Hindus.
Sadly, the Gujarat incidents have not left us with the ability to thump our chests and say 'Muslims and Hindus are equal here'.
Re: 5. Are any of the countries in a situation to bear the cost of a WAR, just a
Re: plain WAR, leave alone Nuclear?
The rulers of BOTH countries have very very carefully NOT spelt out the consequences of a Nuclear War. I would recommend the showing of 'The Day After' (1981 - made for TV) suitably dubbed in a dozen or so languages, to ALL the people of the subcontinent - not once, not twice but DOZENS of times so that the images of the aftermath of a nuclear War are indelibly etched in the minds of the viewers. Will some channel be able to handle this?
Re: 6. Most important, Is WAR going to solve the problems?
Re:
Re: I might Sound Stupid, but does anyone have answers to the above questions?
Re: Does anybody have Alternatives?
You have left out one golden alternative.
4c. Accept the LOC as the International border. Actually I would recommend (strongly) giving up a few more acres of land and accepting some territory that is DEFENDABLE at a toelrable cost - instead of forcing our soldiers to defend the indefensible at a height of 18,000 feet filled with snow and in a cold that is usually a death sentence in and of itself.
The downside to this alternative is that we cannot be sure that Pakistan will stop its mischief. In fact, we can NEVER trust Pakistan. Note: I am NOT saying that we cannot trust Pakistanis. The people and the rulers are often at a variance with one another.
Enough of this diatribe.
