Dear Guptaji
Thank you very much. Very good responses and I do stand
corrected on a lot of issues. However I would like to clarify on a couple of
fronts.
> >Subject: secularism and HUF/HJF
> >>The only thing about HJF /HUF is that individual assets and joint family
>assets are held to be separate entities with separate taxable identities.
This still doesn't address the main query. Why HUF/HJF is accorded tax
benefits while Christian/Muslim/Parsee/Sikh undivided family stand to
benefit none. Above all I'm not advocating tax benefits to others as
well, all I'm asking is to abolish the whole thing. Tax cuts should be
devised in such a way to make economic sense and not in tune with emotions,
traditions and culture.

You got me wrong here Guptaji. I meant imposition of Hindu Civil Code and
not Uniform Civil Code, the basis of which was Akshay's above statement.
Please understand that I have always advocated enforcing single law for all
in place of seperate personal laws. Perhaps my language might have confused
you. My fault.

I'm in no way refuting your statements, but many health magazines (including
the food pyramid diagram given to my daughter from her school) prescribe a
balanced diet comprising of leafy vegetables, cerals, dairy products and
fish rather than vegetarian only diet. Perhaps the quantum of vegetarian
content should be much more comapred to the rest.
Bye
