[nukkad] re nukkad - bargain

Tip of the day: Smile!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

BARGAIN

He said, holding her hand in his, "If you cannot love me, at least
do not hate me?"

She stood silent, looking over the hotel balcony into the valley
far below.

The evening mists were rolling into the river bed, hiding tall trees
and green brush which grew up at the sides. Birds were urgently
flying home so as not to caught in the dark, in this far, deep valley
amongst the great, snow laden mountains.

At last she spoke, "I cannot allow myself to love you, for then I will
lose myself in the rising tide."

She continued, in a soft steady voice: "I also cannot love you because
there are parts of you which live far away and wander beyond the
stars at night."

"I have chosen to not love you as a way to keep myself safe. Because
you love me, I am certain you will bear the hurt so I am painless in my
sleepless nights."

She moved close to him, and whispered, "Will love me then for my
hate's sake?"

"Forever, and for the sake of my love for your hate", he whispered.

They stood in each other's arms as the mist rose from the valley,
now completely dark, till both were covered and lost in the bitter
cold night.

Far away, a falcon screeched out her call, which echoed again
and again, ever fainter, till the sound was heard no more. It
began to drizzle, and the lights behind in the great dance hall
faded.

Something died that day. And something was born.

Such was the Bargain.

Arya.
