Re: [nukkad] nukkad: feedback ondogpile search engine

The happiness of life is made up of minute fractions--the little,
soon-forgotten charities of a kiss or smile, a kind look or heartfelt
compliment. -Samuel Taylor Coleridge, poet (1772-1834)

Do you mean that you are going to pay them the fees to include
your site in their search engine? Have you checked out how much
you will have to pay? I just did a sample buy and found various
additions and 'enahanced services'. What seemed to be a simple
$49 cost ended up costing me $569. You may find a similar hike in
charges. You can go through all the steps except the last one
(where you actually purchase their services) and find out the
charges. This may be a helpful exercise.

Note that Google is the behemoth of search engines. If your site
is listed well in Google (shows up in the first couple of pages
of search results for *relevant* [1] terms), you should be fine.

Next, check your site's listing in Yahoo!'s directory.

These two search engines drive the majority of the visitors to
your site. If you make sure that you are listed well in them, you
should be OK.

The 'pay per place' search engines should be considered only after
making sure that Google and Yahoo! are well covered. And if you
want to try out such paid sites, there are alternatives to dogpile
like Overture that may give you better results.

If you need more details or help in making sure that your site
is visible on the web, let me know. I have done this professionally
and may be able to help.

[1] It is important to judge your site's search engine standing
by using search terms that actual web surfers might use. Very broad
terms are useless as are very specific terms. Your website logs will
be able to show what terms were used by web surfers on search engines
to find your site. They will also be able to tell you how many
people came via Google, how many via Yahoo! etc.
