[nukkad] Q on praying method

Is there any specific significance to the style of praying that
involves lightly tapping one's cheeks with the fingertips (alternating
the hands after every tap) a few times followed by holding the
earlobes with opposite hands and doing a few half-crouches? This is
usually done while standing in front of an idol or an image.

To contrast, I would just hold my hands together (like a 'namaste')
and bow my head.

If you understood what I am referring to, can you tell me if these
actions have any specific meaning?
