Advise on laptops

HI ,

I need to purchase a laptop for my personal use. I intend to pursue my MBA in
india and i stay in mumbai. Can anyone suggest an affordable model and make for
this purpose.
I looked around in the market and it seems to me , the lowest priced models are
offered by ACER , COMPAQ , IBM , DELL And HP in that order .
Is  AMD K6 is preferable to a Celeron ?
ideally i would  have preferred a second hand model but i am not too confident
of the auction sites and the stuff on offer there.

Can anyone help me here ?
