Dear Guptaji,
Varsha Bhosle is an acquired taste - it
acquirable at all :-)
She has a fan following on the Net (as rediff
loves to tout) that beats all others.
She writes opinion pieces that make you want to
throttle her - which is a dream opinion writer
for most newspapers that wish to sell
advertising.
She evokes strong reactions and - from what
little I have read of her - she relishes the
negative reactions that she incites. She uses
words like 'pinkos' which elude me as to
meaning. It is very street-level and is probably
something that someone from any of the
Bombay or Dilli colleges will be able to tell
you the meaning of. I would imagine that it
is a case of 'generation gap' - and this time I
am in your boat :-)
If there is someone that she reminds me of - it is Tunku Varadarajan, http://opinionjournal.com/columnists/tvaradarajan/?id=95001616
who is the 'deputy editorial features editor of
The Wall Street Journal'. Tunku is at least as
aggravating - and invites criticism.
Returning to Varsha, I don't think I have
anything against her in terms of facts.
She appears to have done her homework. It would
probably take someone with a certain amount of
free time to research what she is saying - and
refute her.
