Ref:
'' It is typical of all Hindu scholars. Everyone of them
is most reluctant to admit that the Bhagwad Gita is
anyway influenced by Buddhism and is ever ready
to deny that the Gita has borrowed anything from
Buddhism. It is the attitude of Prof. Radhakrishnan
and also of B.G.Tilak. Where there is any similarity
in thought between the Bhagwad Gita and Buddhism
too strong and too close to be denied, the argument
is that it is borrowed from Upnishads. It is typical
of the mean mentality not to allow any credit to
Buddhism on any account.''
--- Dr. B.R.Ambedkar, social reformist, scholar,
educationist, economist, leader of the neglected
castes in India, chief architect of the draft of
democratic constitution of modern India.
I quote, verdict is yours.
**************************
MY VERDICT--
1. Ambedkar was a scholar alright, and an expert in Constitutional law.
Whether he was a scholar of scriptures, too, is probably questionable.
2. His utterances seem to be influenced by a bitterness towards Hinduism,
because of whose caste system he suffered personally.
3. He was not only a scholar, but, also, a politician of sorts. He was
probably trying to create a Dalit constituency for himself, now fully
exploited by the likes of Mayawati, LL.B.
4. The above factors probably combined to cause him to make the above-quoted
statement against the well known fact [now even proven by impeccable,
published, scientific studies] that Gita/Krishna ante-dated Buddha by about
2500 years. His statement becomes meaningless/knowingly false/absurd in view
of the above.
