Vajapayee is an example in the extreme opposite. M C Gupta ======================================= Between Vajapayee's two words one can finish breakfast, he is that fast !! Major democratic nations like USA, India are not much influenced, governed by what their one leader, however highest office he/she may be holding, may look to a lay viewer on the TV. This leader, is only a part of a whole administration that runs by various pre-set policy norms, directive principles, guiding rules and many checks, controls, restrains etc.at various levels. Bush is only a P.R.O. of his nation, nothing beyond. It is for this reason that we are least perturbed when our President is a Muslim ( member of a communith ill famed world wide for seeking separatism whereever it co-lives with others), our P.M. a Sikh ( member of a community that took to violent campaign for cessation in the very recent past) and party president and P.M.maker a christian, that too an alien and a woman (who has no credit of working for poor masses of India)! and that too all at a time, and all this we have demonstrated within less than 60 years of attaining freedom. America, even after achieving her independence for four times the longer period ( 230 years to be accurate ) is not able to demonstrate even one feat, a hallmark which is a must to be attained before a nation of multi-cultures could be called genuinely democratic. To that extent democracy in the USA is weak, not so firmly consolidated to a level whereby they can trust just anybody for just any political, national post. Instead of monopoly of power ( one party system ) as in Iraq or Libya, what USA has is a duopoly of power, or liberally speaking ' The Democracy of The Prolitariat''. Anna has lived under such a regime and can give feedback with her experiences. Rohit Zaveri.
