Thanks, Mean, TV and Loki.

1. When I searched for "normal.dot" file by using the start>search option, I
found 2 files, with the following peculiar features:

A. Both had about 26 kb size [29 on disc]. The name appeared only as
'normal', not as 'normal.dot'.
B. On opening the file, each was a empty.
C.. On clicking property, it showed that the file was in archives
D. Its date of modification preceded its date of creation [Now, how is THAT
possible?]

2. I now remember that about a month ago, I had a warning on the screen to
the effect that'This will change your normal.dot template'. It is likely I
clicked yes, without knowing the implications.

3. I read the following:
http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/Pub0009/LPMArticle.asp?ID=151 and did as
advised [changed the name of the normal file].

4. Nothing happened.
