Geographical proximity of WB to China may not be the reason for spread
of communism there. That way the north-eastern states should have been
communist bastion long ago. And it doesn't explain spread of communism
in Kerala.

If Rohit is referring to the standard of higher education in Kerala, I
would agree, though not in comparison with WB. I don't think WB can
also boast of high standards.  Standard of higher education in Kerala
is low compared to its neighbouring states, its high literacy levels
notwithstanding.

It is almost as if the Communists wanted Keralites to be literate
enough to be aware of their rights but not educated enough to be aware
their duties and denounce Communism.
